Notes on our autumn skin protocol

The seasonal shifts in barrier function we plan around, and what we adjust month to month.

Autumn does specific things to the LA skin barrier. The marine layer thins, indoor heating kicks on, and the sun is still doing late-summer work. We've watched this pattern for long enough that our autumn protocol writes itself.

Two things we routinely adjust in October: cleanser strength (lower) and barrier support (higher, usually a ceramide-led serum). For most patients that's the whole change. For patients on retinoids or in active resurfacing courses, we tend to space sessions further apart through November.

What we do not adjust: SPF. The day-after-day SPF habit is what carries everything else forward. If you're skipping it because the marine layer feels like cover, you're losing ground.
